Hay Castle Trust intends to rescue and conserve the critically at-risk Medieval keep and the mansion; restore and open the ancient gate - the oldest of its kind in the UK; reinstate the vital connection between the Castle and the town; and create a culturally and economically vibrant centre for the arts and training.

II.2.4) Description of the procurement
The project will make safe and conserve the existing fabric and introduce new elements to create a new cultural venue supported by a cafe. Within the medieval tower new viewing platforms and occupation levels will be formed. The east part of the Jacobean mansion will receive a new roof and new windows, and the re-enclosed space will house an entrance hall and multi-use spaces, as well as providing a lift for level access to all upper floors. The west part of the mansion will have its roof upgraded to improve thermal performance, and will have its interior improved to allow flexible use for venue hire, as well as providing a bookshop, reading rooms, gallery, and education spaces. The service wing will be adapted to provide both visitor facilities and back of house functions. A kitchen will be re-provided at ground floor in the service wing that will serve both functions in the mansion and the new cafe in the adapted coach house. Outside the buildings, some fabric repairs are required, routes through the gardens will be formalised and new drainage and utilities supplies provided.
