Abstract

The WBS collects approximately 105,000 donations per year and includes up to 3 anticoagulated samples per donation. Tests are performed using these 3 samples, one of which is collected in PPT tube for NAT HBV, HCV, HIV and a proportion for HEV. The PPT tubes are stored below -30oC for up to 3 years. The storage of samples below -30oC enable the biological components to remain viable for follow up test to be performed in cases of suspected blood borne infections transmission. The archive material is human blood samples which currently are being tested for anti-HCV, HIV combo, HBsAg, anti-syphilis, anti-HTLV and NAT HBV, HCV, HIV and HEV. Some samples to be archived have not been tested for NAT HEV. The archived samples are kept onsite at the WBS for about 6 months and then sent to the supplier or storage for the remainder of the 3 years. II.2.4) Description of the procurement

The WBS collects approximately 105,000 donations per year and includes up to 3 anticoagulated samples per donation. Tests are performed using these 3 samples, one of which is collected in PPT tube for NAT HBV, HCV, HIV and a proportion for HEV. The PPT tubes are then stored below -30oC for up to 3 years. The storage of samples below -30oC enable the biological components to remain viable for follow up test to be performed in cases of suspected blood borne infections transmission.

Donor samples collected in PPT tubes are placed in specific locations in a cardboard box for storage. Each box contains up to 96X3 (288) sets of samples. Each box will have a unique barcode with eye readable identifier.

The archive material is human blood samples which currently are being tested for anti-HCV, HIV combo, HBsAg, anti-syphilis, anti-HTLV and NAT HBV, HCV, HIV and HEV. Some samples to be archived have not been tested for NAT HEV.

Some of the samples to be archived may be positive for one or more of the above tests. A negative result for the above tests does not indicate that the samples are free from infection.
