Communications Outlets will be required to service positions, as detailed on the associated drawings and room data sheets. Pre-Approved Installers The following CommScope Network, Design & Installation certified installers are pre-approved. Any other CommScope Network, Design & Installation installer will be required to provide reference sites and have the quality of their work approved by the university Network Services Team before they are appointed. The Assistant Head Infrastructure or Manager Network Services shall review the tender responses for the installation of the structured cabling system and shall grant approval of the recommended installer. Prior to commencement of the installation a site meeting shall be organised between the approved installers engineers and the Universitys Assistant Head Infrastructure or Manager Network Services. At this meeting the room layout, cabinet layout and labelling scheme will be communicated to the installer. The installers engineers will present their valid TE qualifications at this meeting. NO CABELING INSTALLATION WORKS ARE TO BE CARRIED OUT PRIOR TO THE INSTALLER/UNIVERSITY SITE MEETING. Cabling System Standards Cabling System Standards - The system will support generic voice and data services using Category 5e UTP cable and components, in accordance with the following standards: TIA/EIA 568-B (including TSBs 67, 72 & 75 / TSB-36, TSB-40 and TSB-40A) Cabling Standard for Customer Premises BS EN 50173 : Information Technology Generic Cabling Systems BE EN 50174-1: Specification and Quality Assurance BE EN 50174-2 : Installation Planning and Practices BS 6701 : Installation of Apparatus for Connection to Telecommunication Systems. BS 7718 : Installation of Fibre Optic Cables Earthing Standards - All necessary protective earths to be provided in accordance with relevant current standards, regulations and codes. Specialist Qualifications Unless specifically stated otherwise, the works detailed in this specification and associated drawings are to be carried out by specialists with CommScope Network, Design & Installation status who are able to provide the CommScope 25 year Enterprise Networks System Warranty upon completion of the installation. All specialist engineers will have attended and passed the CommScope Structured Wiring Technician ACT I and ACT II course, and have a valid CommScope recommended Installation Practices Award. Evidence of this will need to be provided prior to any installation works commencing. The successful specialist will be required to nominate a senior engineer to supervise the installation from commencement through to completion. Any detailed design of the installation is to be undertaken by a design engineer qualified to BICSI RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) level. The RCCD engineer assigned to the project shall liaise with the Universitys Assistant Head Infrastructure, or Manager Network Services, on matters relating to this specification. General Specification Cabling Components - The communications cabling system shall be an integrated structured cabling system utilising CommScope Krone RJK-SL Category 6a outlets and CommScope Krone 24 way PCB Category 6a patch panels, supplied and installed fully in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and specifications. Cable - The cable used for the installation will be Low Smoke Zero Halogen, CommScope Krone Cat6a 4 pair Unshielded Twisted Pair cable and installed fully in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and specifications. Cable fixing The cable must be installed to ensure minimum bending radius and cable tie tightness specifications are not violated. In particular only wide cable ties of the hook and loop (Velcro) style shall be used. Nylon cable ties are not permitted. Cable Lengths - Cable runs must be installed in one continuous length between the communications outlet and its associated patch panel located in the designated LAN room, and this run must not exceed 90 metres in length. Cable Separation - Separation must be maintained between communications cabling and other signalling or electrical power cables in order to meet the requirements of Category 5e certification. Cable Termination Pinouts - All Category 6a outlets to be terminated in accordance with the EIA/TIA 568B (aka ATT 258A) pinout designation. Labelling - All ends of cabling and all outlets must be identified and clearly labelled with permanent means of identification. LAN cabinets and patch panels shall also be clearly identified and referenced. All labels for outlets and patch panel ports to be typewritten in the supplied Krone labelling windows in accordance with the Universitys standard convention. Hand-written labels must not be used. Details of the labelling scheme will be provided following award of contract. Electrical Installer/Specialist liaison The Specialist shall liaise fully with the electrical installer to inform him of his requirements and provide details of cable routes, prior to installation of the cables, so that the cable containment system installed will be sufficient for the initial installation quantities plus 50% additional capacity for future growth. Cabling Support Systems A system of horizontal cable basket tray to be installed by the electrical installer within the suspended ceiling or floor voids of the building. The basket work will be of appropriate size to accommodate the specified number of cable runs plus an additional 50% capacity for future growth. Any vertical risers will be of sufficient capacity to support the specified number of cable runs plus an additional 50% capacity for future growth. Where horizontal basket tray connects to vertical riser basket tray, only slow bends of min 300mm radius are to be used. All horizontal cable basket to be installed with the opening facing upwards. Installation of cable basket on its side or upside down is not permitted. All cable basket to be installed so it is easily accessible after the installation. Cable basket must not be installed behind solid walls, ducting or other obstructions. Where the cable basket shares a route with other services the location of the cable basket must be chosen so it is in the most easily accessible location. A system of perimeter dado trunking, to be installed by the electrical installer, will be used to distribute cabling to service positions. This trunking system to be specifically MK Prestige 2Com two compartment or MK Prestige 3D three compartment (MK trunking). All horizontal sections of MK trunking will be of sufficient capacity to support the specified number of cable runs plus an additional 50% capacity for future growth. Only manufacturers pre-formed components are to be used for bends, joints, T sections etc. Where the dado level MK trunking system links to the horizontal basket tray distribution, this must only be accomplished by a vertical section of MK trunking from the dado section to the suspended ceiling void. Horizontal basket tray must be installed to the location of the vertical section of MK trunking. Each room must have its own vertical section of MK trunking. It is not permitted to feed the dado trunking by conduit drops. It is not permitted to feed dado trunking through the walls from adjoining rooms. Where indicated on the associated drawings and room data sheets a system of under-floor cable basket and floor boxes may be used. Floor boxes must have Euro apertures to accommodate CommScope Krone RJK-CL Cat6a outlets. Where the under-floor box system links to the ceiling horizontal basket tray distribution this must be accomplished by a vertical section of MK trunking. Alternatively where the under-floor box system links to the dado level trunking system distribution this must be accomplished by a vertical section of MK trunking. Floor boxes fed from an under-floor basket to be fed via flexible conduit of a minimum of 25mm diameter. Description of Installation LAN Rooms and Cabinets The LAN equipment room is situated on the first floor. This room will serve the ground and first floors. This LAN room will have the designation C2. One 42U high LAN cabinets, Cannon SmartCab series by Cannon Technologies Ltd to be installed to house patch panels and active equipment within the C2 LAN room. Ensure the cabinet is ordered with front and rear doors. The cabinet will have the designation C2A. The overhead horizontal basket tray distribution shall be extended into the LAN room so that it runs over the top of the cabinets. Cables will then be dressed from the basket tray through the top left and right cable side entries of the LAN cabinets onto the side mounted cables trays. Cables must not be run through the large central fan tray expansion area on the top of the cabinet. Sufficient CommScope Krone patch panels to be supplied and installed to provide termination for all installed cables. For each installed cable, a service loop to be left between the vertical cable support tray within the LAN cabinet and the rear of the patch panels. For each 24 way patch panel, two CommScope Krone cable management bar shall be supplied. One to be installed below each 24 way patch panel and one issued to the University for use with active equipment. Protective earths to each cabinet shall be installed by the electrical installer, taking advice from the cabling specialist. For cabinets C2A a dedicated single-phase 32A mains power supply presented as two 16A IEC 60309 (aka Commando) sockets to be installed by the electrical installer. A diagram and details of cabinet layouts will be provided following award of contract. 5.10 Air Conditioning to cool and maintain the room/equipment at a 21 degree temperature 5.11 Windows to have suitable covering such as blinds to block sunlight Offices 1 no. single gang, Euro aperture faceplate fitted with CommScope Krone RJK-SL Cat6a punchdown blocks to be installed at each specified service position within staff office space. 2 no. CommScope Krone Category 6a, 4 pair UTP cables to be installed between each service outlet position and the serving LAN cabinet. Social learning and other areas with floor boxes Floor boxes to be fitted with Euro aperture data module plates. 1 no. CommScope Krone Euro adapters and CommScope Krone RJK-SL Cat6a punchdown blocks to be installed at each specified service outlet position. 1 no. CommScope Krone Category 6a, 4 pair UTP cables to be installed between each service outlet position and the LAN cabinet. General Teaching Rooms 1 no. single gang, Euro aperture faceplate fitted CommScope Krone RJK-SL Cat5e punchdown blocks to be installed at each specified service position within general teaching rooms. 2 no. CommScope Krone Category 6a, 4 pair UTP cables to be installed between each service outlet position and the communications cabinet. PC Laboratories 1 no. single gang, Euro aperture faceplate fitted with CommScope Krone RJK-SL Cat5e punchdown blocks to be installed at each specified service position within PC Laboratories. 1 no. CommScope Krone Category 6a, 4 pair UTP cables to be installed between each service outlet position and the communications cabinet. Wireless LAN 1 no. single gang, Euro aperture faceplate fitted with CommScope Krone SL Cat6a punchdown blocks to be installed in the ceiling void of suspended ceiling, or for solid ceilings in a flush mount backbox on the ceiling, at each specified service position to provide wired connectivity for Wireless LAN Access Points. 1 no. CommScope Krone Category 6a, 4 pair UTP cables to be installed between each service outlet position and the LAN cabinet. Miscellaneous Network services (CCTV, BMS, Door control etc.) 1 no. single or double gang, Euro aperture faceplate fitted with CommScope Krone SL Cat6a punchdown blocks to be installed for CCTV, BMS etc. as indicated on the associated drawings. 1 or 2 no. CommScope Krone Category 6a, 4 pair UTP cables to be installed between each service outlet position and the LAN cabinet. Link Cables 12.1 The specialist shall install a 24 way Krone Truenet Blown Fibre Tube (Duct Grade/Direct Install) micro duct with 1 tube populated with 12 core 9/125 fibre optic cable between the communications cabinet in Chiro C2 Lan room and the communications cabinets in J Block room J144 and G Block room G223 12.2 The specialist shall install a 24 way fibre optic patch panel, with duplex positions populated, in C2 LAN room communications cabinet and a 24 way fibre optic patch panel, with duplex positions populated, in the communications cabinet in J Block room J144 and G Block room G223 12.5 All fibre optic panels to be terminated with SC connectors. 12.6 All microducts to be sealed with appropriate end caps and/or gas seals. Patch Cables The contractor to supply CommScope Category 6a patch cables in a quantity twice the number of installed outlets. The patch cables supplied are to be allocated in the following percentages:- 10% Patch Cord RJ45 Slim Line Cat 5e UTP LSZH Stranded Grey 1.0m 30% Patch Cord RJ45 Slim Line Cat 5e UTP LSZH Stranded Grey 1.5m 30% Patch Cord RJ45 Slim Line Cat 5e UTP LSZH Stranded Grey 2.0m 30% Patch Cord RJ45 Slim Line Cat 5e UTP LSZH Stranded Grey 3.0m Testing The Category 6a installation shall be tested to ANSI/TIA/EIA 568-B/5 standards, to permanent link level, using a Fluke DTX CableAnalyzer test unit or equivalent. Marginal test results will not be acceptable. A minimum of 2dB headroom is required for all passes. The fibre optic installation shall be tested to appropriate ANSI/TIA/EIA standards. Both loss and OTDR tests to be completed. All test results to be issued electronically to the Universitys Network Services Group as part of the acceptance testing of the installation, and before building handover. Test results are to be provided on disc, or via e-mail, in Fluke Cable Manager format. Documentation The CommScope 25 year Enterprise Networks System Warranty Certificate, to be issued directly to the Universitys Network Services Group within 1 month of acceptance of the installation. In addition to the Warranty Certificate, full documentation of the cable routes, identification, types of cables, capacities, equipment details and configuration of LAN cabinets are to be provided within 1 month of acceptance of the installation. This information is to be presented in the form of an Operating and Maintenance Manual and "As Fitted" drawings. Drawings are to be provided on disc in AutoCAD format. Copies of all documentation relating to the cable installation to be issued directly Universitys Network Services Group within 1 month of building handover date.
