Abstract

York Central (YC) is a brown-field opportunity site of regional and national significance. The site has the potential to deliver major mixed use regeneration immediately to the west of York railway station. Being c72 hectares of underused and underutilised land, there is an immense opportunity to transform this site and capitalise on the inherent transport connections and proximity to the traditional city centre core.

Recent and evolving master-planning work envisages that the site could support:

— development of up to 80 000 m2 mixed commercial space to support up to 7 000 jobs;

— development of between 1 500 to 2 500 residential units;

— growth of the existing National Railway Museum as a cultural hub;

— the creation of new public realm, parks and green corridor connections between existing communities and throughout the site for pedestrians and cyclists.
