Abstract

Powys County Council (The Council) is tendering to establish a framework for the provision of transport services primarily within the county of Powys, however, there maybe some out of county requirements. The Council currently conveys around 7000 pupils to 15 High Schools (some out of county), 74 primary schools and two FE sites across the county. In addition, the Council reported in 16/17 that 1,100,000 passenger journeys were made on 32 contracted public transport services. The Council currently spends around GBP 10m pa providing home to school transport and engages with around 80 Contractors to provide around 275 dedicated home to school contracted routes. Learners may travel on either a dedicated school transport vehicle, being used exclusively for school learners or they may be conveyed on a vehicle providing a registered Local Bus Service where members of the public may be picked up and dropped off along the route and charged a separate fare.
