Abstract

Betsi Cadwaladr University Local Health Board (BCUHB) was established on 1st October 2009 following implementation of the Welsh Assembly’s One Wales National Reform Programme for the NHS in Wales and is made up of two former NHS Trusts and 6 Local Health Boards. BCU Health Board is the largest health organisation in Wales and provides a full range of primary, community, acute hospital and mental health services for a population of approximately 676,000 across North Wales and some parts of North Powys. BCU Health Board is responsible for the operation of three District General Hospitals as well as 22 other acute and community hospitals, over 90 health centres, clinics, community health team bases and mental health units. The Health Board employs approximately 16,561 staff and has a budget of about £1.2 billion and is organised into Clinical Programme Groups (CPG). The 11 Clinical Programme Groups (CPG) are led by Chiefs of Staff, operating in a devolved governance framework.
