Abstract

Water industry activities include, but not limited to, the collection, abstraction, treatment, supply and distribution of drinking water and the collection, treatment and discharge of wastewater, the extraction and processing of bio-solids and processing of associated by-products, including bio gas, and the processing and disposal of all associated waste.

United Utilities are proposing the creation of an integrated inventory management solution consisting of a range of storage and transport facilities designed to best meet the needs of the teams who are responsible for maintaining the company’s operational assets. It is anticipated that the service would be used by the company’s water and wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure teams, the bio-resources team and the company’s maintenance service provider.

The initial proposal concept is that the solution would consist of:

— a central store – responsible for storing high value, long lead time stock,

— long term storage – a low cost, flexible storage solution for bespoke items and other ad-hoc requirements,

— strategic stores – A range of regional stores servicing the needs of critical operational spares and strategic network materials,

— local stores – a wide range local stores based at the company’s larger operational sites replenished weekly containing consumables and other high turnover items.

Additional services required to support these solutions would be:

— transportation services,

— integration to the company’s SAP inventory management module,

— an electronic product catalogue and app 24/7 security.

The ability to physically separate water and wastewater materials UU is seeking to engage with suppliers who operate in the market for these services to ensure that a future regulated procurement for these services is the best match of UU’s needs and the markets capabilities.
