NCH is in the process of installing a 2.5MW wood chip boiler to supply the majority of the heat demand of the Duffryn Housing Estate Newport, South Wales. The boiler consists of a 2.5MW Polytechnik moving grate furnace and exhaust gas recirculation system. A heat meter will be installed to measure the heat output from the biomass boiler for RHI and fuel procurement purposes. The heat meter will be positioned between the biomass boiler and thermal store. The heat meter will be an MID Class 2 compliant ultrasonic heat meter. The heat supplied in the period as measured by this heat meter will be multiplied by the wood fuel supplier’s price per kWh to give the cost for the heat supplied in the period (net of any standing charges). The boiler will be expected to operate with a seasonal efficiency of 85% throughout the year.
The fuel store dimensions are 4.8m wide x 6.1m high x 22m long and have been designed such that an articulated lorry with push floor carrying circa 100m3 of wood fuel can reverse into the fuel store and offload.
Fuel handling will be via a ‘toploader’ style overhead fuel feed system.
