Abstract

NHS Wales Informatics Service has taken on responsibility for the administration of an agreement with the Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) which enables the NHS Organisations in Wales to legally make copies of various paper and digital publications. The license covers over 16 million books, journals and magazines from 36 mandate territories (as amended on the CLA website). The license also includes text and illustrations. Without a copyright licensing agreement the NHS in Wales would be acting illegally in making copies of publications and be liable to prosecution under Copyright Laws. CPV: 48218000.

NHS staff can make and distribute by photocopying and scanning as many copies as required for each particular purpose subject to the following extent limits:

one chapter from a book

two articles from a single issue of journal/periodical

any number of articles dealing with a particular theme within an issue

one entire case from a published law report or five percent of the publication, if greater than the above.

The copyright licencing agency is the sole supplier of such copyright services for the UK. Other such agencies exist in other countries but they serve the country in which they are based. There is no alternative supplier available.
