Abstract

Network Rail will be carrying out a design contest for the trial of innovative methods for in-service monitoring of vehicle response to track condition.

Network Rail’s requirements is to undertake operational trials of innovative technology for in-service monitoring of vehicle response to track condition to address four problem statements:

2) Remove Emergency Speed Restrictions (ESRs)/Temporary Speed Restrictions (TSRs) more quickly.

3) Prevent unexpected (service affecting) track geometry faults.

4) Prevent derailment on high risk assets that are not routinely measured dynamically.

Network Rail will be inviting applicants to participate in a Design Contest by submitting a design or plan which addresses one or more of the challenge statements.

Following the completion of design contest, network rail will select design contest winners for each challenge, these winners will be invited to participate in a phase of negotiations with Network Rail which if successful may result in the award of a service contract for the trials.
