Abstract

Ambition North Wales’s Digital Programme is aiming to deliver investment in digital infrastructure in the region to support the objectives of the North Wales Growth Vision. Investment, including through the North Wales Growth Deal, will support communities and industries across the economy and will address gaps and opportunities associated with a wide range of digital communications technologies. The Programme also recognises a role for non-capital interventions to improve connectivity, particularly in supporting businesses understand options for improving their connectivity using the full range of technologies, particularly wireless network technologies, such as but not exclusively 5G and LPWAN (low power wide area network) To achieve the objective of improving the adoption of digital communication network technologies by businesses in the region, Ambition North Wales intends to procure a service to support businesses explore and understand their options. The scope of the technologies to be promoted will be consistent with the UK Wireless Infrastructure Strategy. The work will be delivered throughout 2024 and an exit strategy will need to be developed before the project starts and refined during delivery. Where additional funding sources are identified and if there is a demonstrable benefit in providing an extended or similar service beyond 2024 Ambition North Wales will consider opportunities. This service will involve expert advice and guidance to businesses across all industries where there is an interest but knowledge gap in understanding how network technologies can bring economic benefits. The service will be delivered through direct contact with businesses, involving engaging with key staff responsible for implementing and maintaining networks to support operations.
