Abstract

A principle designer has been appointed and has developed a schedule of works which is attached to this brief. We now require a Principal Contractor to start carrying out and complete this work in 2024. The Schedule of Works, attached in Appendix 1, details the 10 areas of the monument that require consolidation. The interventions required include dismantling some areas of the monument, excavation works and consolidation of key features. All interventions are described in detail in the schedule of works and accompanying drawings which can be found in Appendices 6-15. A key plan of the site is provided in Appendix 3 and an Access Plan in Appendix 4. This information details the machinery and materials needed to carry out this work. The following outputs are required from the successful contractor: • Work with the Principal Designer and Cadw to agree intervention methods works as per the schedule of works. • Carry out consolidation works, as per instructions from the Principal Designer and in accordance with Cadw’s Schedule Ancient Monument Consent. • Carry out the duties as the Principal Contractor as per the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015. Work with the Ecological Clerk of Works and Archaeological Clerk of Works to ensure any concerns around ecology or archaeology are dealt with before proceeding.

2 Contract Details

2.1 Title

Clydach Ironworks Consolidation Phase 3

2.2 Description of the goods or services required

The Schedule of Works, attached in Appendix 1, details the 10 areas of the monument that require consolidation. 23/02/2024 11:37	Answer to sail nailing query re defect 3 The principal for the repair of defect 3 is to construct a new contractor designed soil nail slope to act as the permanent reinforced slope with stone cladding to the front. The soil nail slope should be fully self-supporting so it could be left without the stone facing if required. The stone facing should be tied back to the soil nailed slope and to the adjacent stonework. During the tender it would be acceptable for the contractor design elements to be estimated (ie number, length and specification of soil nails and sprayed concrete thickness and reinforcement) provided this is suitably presented and broken down. Following contractor designer, post award, updated costs should be provided with the revised specification to be approved by the CA
