Title
Supply of Lab-scale Roll-to-Roll Coater with multiple drying technologies for battery manufacturing
|
2.2
|
Description of the goods or services required
The lab-scale Roll-to-Roll (R2R) coating equipment is a specialised tool designed for the manufacturing of electrodes for batteries and supercapacitors. Its primary function is to apply uniform layers of electrode materials onto a continuous current collector substrate, typically a metal foil in roll format. This process is crucial for the development and scaling of high-performance electrodes. The complex chemical composition of electrode materials demands a dedicated R2R tool specifically designed and dedicated for their manufacture. The R2R coater should be equipped to explore various drying technologies (hot air, IR, UV) aimed at minimizing the solvent content in the final electrode. Additionally, the coater is equipped with plasma treatment module, which can enhance the wettability and increase the homogeneity of processed layer.
The precision and versatility of the coater in managing the electrode coating process and trialling different drying methods is essential for scaling to pilot and commercial production levels. Additionally, plasma treatment is crucial for accelerating the development of highly innovative ‘anode-free’ batteries. Plasma treatment of substrate showed enhanced performance of this technology, but haven’t yet been proved beyond lab-scale research. It will also serve as a key instrument in our research initiatives aimed at reusing production waste electrodes and recycling electrodes sourced from used batteries.
