Abstract

Phase 3 of the Newport Redevelopment Project is split into 3 Floors. A floor is the hub of the campus and at present infrequently utilised and lacks a sense of vibrancy and purpose. The space is presently occupied by a catering outlet, security desk, and business exchange plus a vast unutilised space. This project will give opportunity to extend the catering facility, remove the business hub and create more vibrant spaces. We presently have 4 lecture theatres on A floor and 2 are surplus to requirement and are to be converted to more casual meeting collaborative spaces. The main library and advice zone is located on B Floor. The floor lacks collaborative spaces and has a vast area of empty floor space following the closure of the main catering facility. This project will allow for the reorganization of the office and library spaces to provide a modern looking well utilised spaces. D Floor has a surplus to requirement ‘secondary school’ laboratory. There is a need for traditional classrooms rather than laboratories and this project will remove the lab and provide a new general purpose classroom and a large meeting / collaboration room. Both floors will entail removal of all current fittings and finishes and supply new. New lighting, alterations to the current small power, network, fire detection and air handling. All new flooring coverings as well as the construction of the new layout.
