Abstract

Cwmpas requires a Contractor(s) to research the economic impact of employee ownership in Wales. This will include assessing the costs of transferring ownership to the employees as well as the economic growth and the impact of that growth post transition. The research will include looking at businesses that have successfully transferred ownership to their employees in Wales and assess: - • The level of growth within the business (if any) to include turnover, profits and number of employees, since the point of transfer. • Plans for future growth within the business. • The level of engagement of staff since the point of transfer. • Additional financial rewards/incentives received by staff since transfer. • Additional financial rewards/incentives planned for staff in the future. • The well-being of staff and how this compares to people employed in traditional (non-employee owned) businesses. • The impact on staff and exiting owners about the transfer process and how they feel about the business post transfer. • What the impact would have been if the employee ownership route had not been pursued. The research will deliver a report that looks at the costs and benefits of employee ownership in Wales currently. It will also provide a view of future economic benefits that could be achieved from increasing the size and scale of employee-owned businesses in Wales. The final report will be completed by 31st December 2022.
