Cwm Taf Morgannwg uhb requires to outsource Histology samples and reporting to tackle the existing backlog within the Histology service as well as to support the increased workload resulting from increased capacity in service areas under the Planned Care Recover Program. The urgent nature of the talking the backlog, combined with staffing vaccines requires a dynamic and safe outsourced solution with the company that has existing operational protocols in place to ensure the safety and quality of the wet sample exchange.
It is planned that within the contract duration, if the requirement to continue the outsourcing is maintained due to the impacts of the pandemic, then a tendering exercise will be undertaken.

LD Path has previously undertaken to report histology samples for the Health Board for auditing purposes and has exhibited the required Royal College of Pathology standards as well as built the required operational interface required. The direct award of the contract is to ensure that the backlog is tackled efficiently and with maximum standards of quality and safety.
