Abstract

Natural Resources Wales and its Metal (Non-Coal) Mine Programme Delivery Partner, The Coal Authority, are currently confirming designs for Blow-out Prevention engineering interventions at a site in the Gwydir Forest, Trefriw, North Wales. This speculative notice has been issued to attempt to understand the availability of contractors with suitable experience and appetite to deliver works in a mine environment (in line with the Mines Regulations 2014, HSE guidance). The current designs can be summarised as; • Site preparation works – temporary diversion of above ground water and power service, vegetation removal, large boulder removal and debris removal from mine entrance. • Installation of temporary works to manage water flow from the mine and to enable safe access to the mine. • Construction of Blow out Prevention engineering intervention, likely taking the form of; - Clearing the adit of debris. - Placing of a 1.35m internal diameter pipe. - Construction of sealing walls. - Injection of specialist resin to fill the annulus. • Installation of flow monitoring radar (plus 30m of cabling), mounting bracket and weir plate. • Installation of an access gate and cage.
