Abstract

National Trust wants to reinstate routine bank-side mowing, de-silting, dredging and de-weeding of the two main rivers and other smaller secondary ditches on the corse and neighbouring agricultural land. The objectives of this work are two-fold. 1. To improve the connectivity and flow characteristics of the ditches to aid water-transfer and drainage of adjacent agricultural land; and 2. To create the diversity of habitats (different stages of succession) within the ditches from open water to fully vegetated, to maximise the biodiversity of the reedbed and fen meadow. In the first instance, we are looking for suitably qualified and experienced contractor(s) who would be interested in quoting for this future contract.
