The service is designed to review the prescribing to patients in primary care in the following three areas.
1. Best prescribing practice and safety
Prescribing in line with best practice (those measured by AWTTC national prescribing indicators).
2. Evidenced based clinical pathway
Review of safety alerts, submission of data and implementation of clinical guidelines.
3. Cost effectiveness and Efficiency
Implementing strategically significant primary care efficiency programmes.
The service requires that there be a movement toward targets for prescribing via patient reviews, education and clinical audit.

This is a Provider Selection Regime Wales (PSR Wales) intended approach notice. The awarding of this contract is subject to the Health Services (Provider Selection Regime) (Wales) Regulations 2025. For the avoidance of doubt, the provisions of the Public Contracts Regulations 2015/Procurement Act 2023 do not apply to this award.
The decision makers will be the Heads of Pharmacy for primary care and community services (East, Central and West) ratified by the Directors of Pharmacy (East, Central and West)
The intention is to award a contract using the most suitable provider process.
