Abstract

The Directorate currently runs a total of 33 procedures on patients within the Cardiothoracic Directorate. The Cardiothoracic Directorate is looking at a way to help provide beneficial information to patients to help explain the procedures they are undertaken through an animated video to provide a full in-depth explanation of the procedure from start to finish – explaining the pros and cons before the procedure actually occurs and what is actually happening as a result of this procedure via each individual step. Overall reducing the risk of any pre-procedure concerns and risk likewise with any post procedure queries. Medical terminology can confuse a patient when listening to medical professionals without a clear understanding to the meaning of the words; we hope these animations can help incorporate a clear visual and audio understanding to the medical terminology being used to provide a more efficient and immersive patient experience to better health.
