Heol Chwarae Rol – Role Play Lane is a not-for-profit community hub based in Rhondda Cynon Taf, dedicated to supporting families, children, and young people through education, well-being, skills development, and inclusive opportunities. Established to respond to community need, our organisation has grown into a trusted space where families can access affordable activities, specialist support, volunteering opportunities, and life-skills training.

Our work centres on creating inclusive environments for children and young people, including those with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) and neurodivergent conditions, to learn, thrive, and connect. We currently support over 233 families, many of whom have children with ALN, who regularly attend our centre. We work in close collaboration with schools, Family Liaison Officers, colleges, universities, and a wide range of third-sector and statutory partners.

We have developed strong, active partnerships with Sunshine Movement (ALN classes), Sunshine Support advisors, Cardiff Speech & Language team, Barnardo’s, Behaviour Support Hub, ASD Rainbows, Valleys Kids, Foster Wales, Interlinks Well-being team, and others. Our links with Coleg y Cymoedd and the University of South Wales provide opportunities for work experience, research support, and skills development. We also host a structured volunteering programme, engaging ALN young people in meaningful roles that build confidence, resilience, and employability.

Heol Chwarae Rol has a proven track record in consultation and engagement projects. Most recently, we delivered the Welsh Government’s Child Poverty Grant engagement exercise (August 2025), hosting three bilingual events across different days and times to maximise accessibility. We engaged 84 adults and 144 children (228 beneficiaries), gathering high-quality insights to feed into national policy. While all responses were submitted in English, we ensured bilingual provision throughout.

Our engagement approach includes surveys, co-design workshops, focus groups, creative activities, and structured youth voice opportunities. We are experienced in adapting consultation methods to support neurodivergent children and young people, ensuring their voices are heard in safe, accessible, and meaningful ways.

We are strongly committed to social value and organisational growth. Recent grants include:

WCVA Volunteering Wales Grant (£51,609.82 over two years) – expanding volunteering and work experience opportunities.

Newid Digital Grant (£2,903.99) – enhancing digital platforms and staff skills to increase accessibility and innovation.

Comic Relief Organisational Growth Fund (£20,000) – strengthening long-term strategy and resilience.

Alongside these, we have delivered projects funded by the National Lottery, Moondance, Community Foundation Wales, Bupa Foundation, RCT Council, and others. Activities include family well-being programmes, after-school clubs, digital inclusion, employability training, maths and sewing workshops, gardening projects, warm spaces, and large-scale community events. We consistently deliver on time and to a high standard, using feedback and data from beneficiaries to shape future services.

Our vision is to continue embedding skills, confidence, and community connections that last beyond individual projects. By working with schools, local authorities, the third sector, and national bodies, we are building pathways for children and young people to thrive, particularly those facing barriers due to poverty, neurodivergence, or ALN.

Heol Chwarae Rol stands out as a grassroots organisation with deep community roots, strong partnerships, and a reputation for delivering inclusive, high-quality engagement. With our experience, networks, and commitment to co-production, we are well-placed to continue delivering projects that improve lives, reduce inequalities, and create long-term positive impact across our communities in Wales.
