 VAUGHAN GETHING MS, MINISTER FOR ECONOMY

Vaughan was born in Zambia and brought up in Dorset. He was educated at Aberystwyth and Cardiff universities and is married to Michelle. Vaughan is a largely retired cricketer and a fan of both rugby and football.

Vaughan was a solicitor and former partner at Thompsons. He is a member of the GMB, UNISON and Unite unions, and was the youngest ever President of the Wales TUC. He has previously served as a county councillor and school governor. He has also been a community service volunteer – supporting and caring for a student with cerebral palsy and is former president of NUS Wales.

Between 1999 and 2001, Vaughan worked as a researcher to former AMs Val Feld and Lorraine Barrett. Between 2001 and 2003, Vaughan was the chair of Right to Vote – a cross-party project to encourage greater participation from black minority ethnic communities in Welsh public life.

Vaughan is a member of the Co-operative Party.

In June 2013 Vaughan Gething was appointed Deputy Minister for Tackling Poverty.  In September 2014, Vaughan was appointed Deputy Minister for Health. In May 2016 he was appointed Cabinet Secretary for Health, Well-being and Sport. Vaughan was appointed Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Services on 3 November 2017. On 13 December 2018 Vaughan was appointed Minister for Health and Social Services. Vaughan was appointed Minister for Economy on 13 May 2021

IAN HENRY, AUTOANALYSIS

Ian, Managing Director of AutoAnalysis has been involved in automotive research and consulting for over 30 years.

He specialises in vehicle production forecasting, at model and plant level, in Europe, North America, India, Korea, China and Africa and is an expert in supply chain analysis.

In addition, Ian is a specialist on the economic and practical cost impact of Brexit, for both UK and EU factories, and is a visiting Professor at the Centre for Brexit Studies at Birmingham City University.

PETER LIVEYFCILT, MANAGING DIRECTOR (GREAT BRITAIN) - HMM (EUROPE) LTD AND GLOBAL SUSTAINABILITY AMBASSADOR - HMM HQ

An authoritative figure in the field of container logistics & transport,  and practised speaker at international conferences,  Peter brings many years of experience not only as a senior container shipping executive and related to European container logistics and operations, but also within the global supply chain and contract logistics sector

Peter has been with HMM since 1996, mostly in the European HQ, where he has been involved in setting up several new initiatives, including as a director of a JV offering logistics and supply chain solutions including warehousing and distribution. He has performed many senior RHQ roles in areas such as trade management, logistics investment, contract logistics, warehousing, business development, European intermodal transportation, ICT development, container terminals and equipment control.

In addition, Peter is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, and is one of a team who actively represents HMM within Clean Cargo, which enables global B2B collaboration with leading retailers, manufacturers, ocean carriers, and logistics service providers dedicated to integrating environmentally and socially responsible business principles into the maritime supply chain. On the environmental front, Peter also represents HMM in the ‘Getting to Zero Coalition’.

The presentation from Peter will include an insight in to the root causes for the current shipping situation and the challenges facing shipping lines, as well as an update regards the long term prognosis for stability and return to standard shipping rates.

 

YIAN BATY, SECTION MANAGER, ENGINE PLANT TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT - TOYOTA MOTOR MANUFACTURING UK

Yian Baty is the Section Manager for Training and Development at Deeside Engine Plant and is responsible for the Toyota Lean Management Centre(TLMC) bringing Toyota principles to a wide range of Industries

Yian joined Toyota in 1995 as an Assembly Production Team Member and has progressed through a number of  leadership roles including Diesel Engine Assembly and the Project Lead for the ZR Low Pressure Casting Line introduction

As well as extensive Production experience Yian has managed the HR section for over 5 years.  Most recently he has been the responsible for shop floor management systems development at the Engine plant. He is passionate about developing people and helping them succeed.

Yian will provide an overview of the new Toyota Lean Clusters Programme

 

PROFESSOR DR RICHARD KEEGAN BE, CENG(R), MCOMM, PHD, FIEI(R)

Richard Keegan is a specialist in the areas of Lean/World Class Business and Benchmarking.  His concept of developing a three tier approach to company development has been adopted as a national approach to support the development of competitiveness in Irish industry, and is known as the Lean Business Offer. 

Over 1,100 company projects were supported for Enterprise Ireland clients during his leadership.  His approach has been adopted by the Industrial Development Authority and an adapted version is currently being rolled out across the country for Micro companies.  He has worked previously for DAF Trucks, Nokia, Nestle and the ESB

Working with Toyota, Richard has led over 80 best practice missions for over 2,000 managers to the Deeside engine plant

Richard will talk to us about his experiences and the benefits of engaging with the Toyota Lean Management Centre

 

MERITOR HVBS AND THE APC

JON BEASLEY, BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND PROGRAMMES DIRECTOR - APC

Jon has been with the APC since it was formed in 2013, with almost 40 years of motor industry experience working with multinational OEMs and supply chain partners and more recently UK Government representatives. 

Jon held various leadership roles within GKN including Group Technology Officer and Driveline Chief Engineer for Aston Martin, Daewoo, Ford Europe, Honda, JLR, Nissan, Mazda, and Volvo. He has worked overseas, establishing GKN’s driveshaft manufacturing operation in Thailand. 

At the APC Jon’s key focus is development of the portfolio of competitions and projects and programmes for small to medium enterprises. His role as Business Development and Programmes Director utilises both his technical experience of global automotive product development, with the business insights gained through running a portfolio of programmes, with large and small companies alike as well as some of the unique challenges experienced by technology developers as they ready their technology and organisations for market deployment. Under Jon’s leadership APC has supported over 150 low-carbon projects to save over 260 million tonnes of CO2 

Meritor will outline their successful cohort APC funding application, gained in support of their diversification to future mobility. This presentation, delivered in conjunction with the Jon Beasley of the APC, will cover how Meritor created their cohort and the challenges, pressures, commitment and skills associated with an application, as well as the mentoring received from the APC
