The enabling works require improvements to the existing road network to accommodate the proposed rail access to the site. Taff's Well Depot will be the location for all Metro Vehicle (MV) delivery, maintenance and operation and the new bridges and associated highway improvements are essential enabling works to achieve this requirement. The depot will house and service the new metro trains and provide a base for 400 train crew and 35 maintenance staff.

Package 8 - Taffs Well Integrated Control Centre and Enabling Works

It is proposed that there will be two rail access points into Taff's Well Depot. The first will be a dual track loop, from the main line to the north of the existing Cardiff Road overbridge, running under Ffordd Bleddyn into the depot. The second link will be a single line running from the mainline to the south of the existing Cardiff Road overbridge and into the depot through an underbridge sited between the existing A470 entry sliproad and the Cardiff Road and Ffordd Bleddyn junction. AGCs scope includes the construction of these new bridges and a new pedestrian ramp to be constructed to the south of Cardiff Road to realign an existing PROW. A new Integrated Control Centre is also going to be constructed within the site footprint as part of the AGC scope.

A new station car park and footbridge will be constructed at Taff's Well station by AGC as part of the improvement works.

A new road over rail bridge at Gelynis Farm will also be constructed to replace an existing level crossing as part of AGCs scope.
