Pentre Awel

Pentre Awel is a ‘one in a generation’ development to be located across 83 acres of land in South Llanelli. It will be the first development of its kind in Wales, creating a unique ecosystem that co-locates business, research, academia, health and leisure within landmark infrastructure.

Pentre Awel is being delivered by Carmarthenshire County Council in partnership with Hywel Dda University Health Board, Universities and Colleges including Coleg Sir Gar, the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, Swansea University and Cardiff University. Pentre Awel is a multi-million project and will be funded by Carmarthenshire County Council, Swansea Bay City Deal and institutional funding.

As well as improving health and wellbeing, the project will create almost 2,000 jobs and training/apprenticeship opportunities, and is expected to boost the local economy by a £467million over the next 15 years.

The council-led project will be developed in phases across four zones. Carmarthenshire County Council has appointed Bouygues UK to design and build Zone One of its prestigious Pentre Awel development.

Zone One will benefit from around £80million of public sector investment and will feature:

 • leisure centre which will incorporate a 25-metre eight-lane swimming pool and learner pool offering traditional lane swimming and learn to swim classes, hydrotherapy pool, gymnasium and dance, spin and multi-purpose studios
 • education facilities to provide a broad spectrum of education and training programmes, from Further and Higher Education, to Work-Ready and Continuing Professional Development
 • A Clinical Delivery Centre to deliver multi-disciplinary care in a community setting, with an adjacent Clinical Research Centre focusing on research, innovation and improvements to population health

 Other zones include:

• assisted living accommodation (Zone 2, Zone 3)
• social and affordable housing development (Zone 2)
• business expansion space (Zone 3)
• housing development (Zone 4)
• hotel (Zone 4)
