Floventis Energy

A joint venture between SBM Offshore, global specialists in floating offshore energy and renewable energy project development company Cierco, Floventis Energy is at the forefront of the global transition to large scale green power generation from floating offshore wind.

Floventis was awarded the agreement for lease for the Llŷr developments in the Celtic Sea by the Crown Estate in July 2021 subject to a Habitats Regulation Assessment. This allows Floventis as the developer to progress with environmental assessment and surveys, secure access to the grid and seek planning consent through the statutory processes.

Located 31km off the coast of Pembrokeshire, the  Llŷr Developments (known as Llŷr 1 and Llŷr 2) will showcase the next generation in clean renewable offshore renewable energy technology ahead of industrialisation.  They will power in the region of 200,000 homes[1] with 200MW of clean, green energy once operational by 2027.  With a cap-ex value in the region of £800 million and an operational life of 25 years, each of the Llŷr projects will consist of six to eight turbines, all of which will be greater than 12MW.

Benthic and geophysical surveys have now been completed in readiness for the submission of a full Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). Consultation is expected to start in July with a full planning application due to be submitted in late 2023.
With an office in Pembroke Dock, Floventis is committed to working with regional and local stakeholders to maximise the opportunity for ports and local businesses to support a sustainable economy.

Supported by Business Wales and Sell2Wales, Floventis is hosting a supplier engagement event on Friday 30th June at 10:30 a.m. in order to introduce the project and engage with potential supply chain partners across Wales.

Floventis is partnering with The Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult to help local companies bid for work in the floating offshore wind industry.

Launched in September 2023, the first Fit 4 Offshore Renewables (F4OR) programme in Wales will give Welsh businesses the skills and expertise to deliver success in this rapidly growing sector. It is a specific development programme for the floating wind industry that has been designed by industry experts. Floventis will provide technical and market insight for those participating.

The F4OR programme will be delivered in phases starting in 2024, with an initial cohort of three companies. Applications are encouraged from firms with more than ten employees and/or have a turnover greater than £1 million, with products or skills that are relevant to the offshore wind sector.
