The University of South Wales (USW) is undertaking a collaborative research and development project aimed at improving industrial resource efficiency. The project (SMART Circle, Project Ref 122016/COL/003) is funded by the Welsh Government SMART Expertise programme utilizing the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), and is being completed in collaboration with a number of industrial partners. The University wishes to procure a laboratory scale system(s) of automatically fed bio-reactors / anaerobic digesters to undertake anaerobic bioprocess research and development. The system(s) should comprise of all of the components required to operate the reactors for this intended purpose and is expected to include at least; feedstock storage with facility for manual replenishment of feedstock, automatic feeding of feedstock to the main reactor, main reactor / digester with mixing and temperature control, digestate storage, gas volume measurement, facility to automatically log system operational parameters. The integrated system(s) is expected to include 8 No. bioreactors.

Total quantity or scope of tender

The University wishes to procure a laboratory scale system(s) of automatically fed bio-reactors / anaerobic digesters to undertake anaerobic bioprocess research and development. The system(s) should comprise of all of the components required to operate the reactors for this intended purpose and is expected to include at least; feedstock storage with facility for manual replenishment of feedstock, automatic feeding of feedstock to the main reactor, main reactor / digester with mixing and temperature control, digestate storage, gas volume measurement, facility to automatically log system operational parameters. The integrated system(s) is expected to include 8 No. bioreactors.

The complete system will be deployed to University of South Wales laboratories in the South Wales (UK) area and should be capable of being moved without major disassembly / reassembly / recommissioning requirements. Some level of modularity is therefore expected.

Responses are required from companies with a demonstrable track record of designing and manufacturing bioreactors for research purposes.

Responses are expected to clearly indicate:

a) a detailed description of the proposed equipment and indication of how this equipment meets or exceeds the specification requirements,

b) previous track-record of the company delivering similar products;

c) expected delivery time;

d) a full breakdown of costs including any additional items that are required to meet the specification

3 Conditions for Participation

3.1

Minimum standards and qualification required

Responses are required from companies with a demonstrable track record of designing and manufacturing bioreactors for research purposes.

Interested parties must be able to meet all the technical requirements as stipulated in the equipment specification.

Be able to provide a detailed description of the proposed equipment and indication of how this equipment meets or exceeds the specification requirements.

Supply all evidence based information as requested.

Identify all costs and cost options available.

Include all warranty details and compliance information.
