Abstract

Menter Mon, together with its partners, wish to appoint a suitable and qualified contractor to undertake a variety of conservation work, with volunteers, in three Local Nature Reserves and occasionally on other green spaces within the Seiriol area of Anglesey and along connecting footpaths. The volunteer sessions will run on a weekly basis, every Tuesday between 10am – 4pm (however the day and time might change depending on the seasons / weather / number of volunteers etc). It is envisaged that sessions may not run during holiday periods such as Christmas, but extra sessions will instead be incorporated during the year, potentially during weekends. The working day will be from 9am – 5pm with the volunteers on site between 10am and 4pm. Type of conservation work involved: • Habitat management using traditional methods e.g. scything, coppicing • Scrub control • Woodland management – small scale tree felling and branch cutting • Invasive Non-Native Species plant control e.g. Himalayan Balsam, Montbretia • Pond restoration and ditch management • Brush cutting • Scarification and green seeding • Heathland restoration and management • Footpath maintenance e.g. stone pitching, boardwalk maintenance and repair • Fencing • Dry stone walling • Woodland crafts and bushcraft Training is an integral part of the volunteer conservation sessions and therefore provision of training in traditional skills and woodland crafts is an essential element to be delivered by the appointed contractor.
