Description of the goods or services required
The NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership, hosted by Velindre NHS Trust are acting on behalf of Cardiff and Vale University Local Health Board who are seeking to award a contract for the provision of Community Optometrist Services.
The contract will be split into 3 lots as follows;
Lot 1 : Glaucoma New Assessment ODTC (Cardiff Area)
Lot 2 : Glaucoma New and Follow up Assessment (Vale of Glamorgan Area)
Lot 3 : Glaucoma Monitoring Service
Bidders are able to submit a response for one or more lots.
Lot 1 and 2 service
This Glaucoma service can be delivered by an optometrist with current WECS accreditation for Eye Health Examination Wales and Certificate in Glaucoma at the premises of a selected contractor with the specified equipment. The service will deliver assessments not covered by GOS, WECS and other NHS services.
The following outcomes are for the patients of the service:
- Patients will receive a Glaucoma Assessment that conforms to this service specification. A choice of appointments will be offered to patients where possible.
- Where patients’ needs are identified that are outside the scope of the glaucoma service that they are referred to the most appropriate provider of care.
Lot 3 Service
This Glaucoma service must be delivered by an optometrist with current WECS accreditation for Eye Health Examination Wales and either the Higher Certificate in Glaucoma and/or the Diploma in Glaucoma at the premises of a selected contractor with the specified equipment.
It should be noted that the premises where the optometrist expects to provide this service from must be based within Cardiff and the Vale Health Board
The service will deliver assessments not covered by GOS, WECS and other NHS services. It is anticipated that the service will operate 48 weeks of the year. The Principle Optometrist is responsible for ensuring that periods of annual leave and sickness can be covered.

- Patients will receive a Glaucoma Assessment that conforms to this service specification. A choice of appointments will be offered to patients where possible.
- Where patients’ needs are identified that are outside the scope of the glaucoma service that they are referred to the most appropriate provider of care.
