Abstract

Newport City Council invites bids from experienced Consultants to assist in the creation of proposals as detailed below; • In February 2018, the Council appointed Fitzpatrick Woolmer to carry out an Interpretation Plan for the Newport Market Arcade Heritage Funded project. A copy of the plan is attached along with the Characterisation Study. The Council is now seeking an Interpretation Consultant to review the interpretation proposals for the Pop-Up Heritage Centre (PUHC) as part of the redevelopment of Newport Market Arcade. The objectives, audiences and themes are not subject to review. • It is likely that the PUHC will be housed in shop unit 14 for a period of two years. Thereafter the shop is likely to become a retail unit. The consultant is therefore required to work with volunteers, both new and existing, to review the current proposals and put forward alternatives, which will enable visitors to the arcade to learn about the heritage within the unit for the two-year period. • The consultant will develop proposals throughout the two-year period and work closely with the project team to design the Proposals. The Proposals will then be used after the closure of the pop-up heritage centre to ensure that these proposals will then be used for the 10 year grant period after the two year agreement has ended. N.B. – The 10 year grant period refers to the period of time the retailers have been given for their units at the arcade. The period of work for the consultancy side will end after 2 years.
