Description of the goods or services required
Newport City council is looking for an experienced and specialist supplier to install LLDPE landfill capping membrane and clay edge bundworks at Docksway Waste Disposal Site, to be installed under a prescribed Construction Quality Assurance scheme.
Docksway Waste Disposal Site is situated to the south of the city of Newport, accessed via the city’s Southern Distributor Road (A48) near Maesglas.
The site contains both a restored landfill area and a live landfill area. The live landfill mass (forming the works area) consists of non-hazardous municipal waste with a nested cell of stable non-reactive hazardous waste (primarily bound, non-reactive asbestos).
The works will consist of:
• Dressing and shaping of existing covered landfill slopes.
• Capping of the landfill using geotextiles and geocomposite membranes, all to be CQA’d.
• Import and construction of an earthworks CQA’d perimeter bund and drainage ditch, into which the capping membranes will be incorporated.
• Import and placement of restoration soils
• Construction of a perimeter access road and outfalls.
Any supplier interested in this opportunity will need to contact Meirion Humphreys on 01633 235273 or meirion.humphreys@newport.gov.uk, who will discuss the opportunity further to ensure suitability with the project before tendering.
