Vertebrate and Invertebrate Surveys

A1) Baseline survey of vertebrates and invertebrates on upland habitats (Migneint).

The methodology should include transect selection criteria. Survey areas should be recorded effectively so that they can be repeated in the future. We wish to form a detailed baseline surveys of vertebrates and invertebrates so that the effect of interventions and/or climatic changes can be recorded over time. The funding available for this work is approximately £23,000.

MIGNEINT – the works referred to as ‘Migneint’ are for an 835ha (2,060ac) area of the Migneint-Arenig-Dduallt located above Bala in Gwynedd. The moorland is 43% dry heath and 36% blanket bog, the remainder is made up of acid grassland, flush and bracken. The area has the following designations:

- Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI)

- Special Area of Conservation (SAC)

- Special Protection Area (SPA)

APPOINTING - we are reliant on the continuation of the scheme/project and is some instances appropriate permissions for the planned works to go-ahead. Appropriate stakeholders and permitting bodies have been approached and are broadly in support of the project and so we hope to gain permissions without issue where this is necessary.
