Abstract
We are seeking quotations for a contractor to write engaging copy, design and manufacture signage for eight carparks in the Brecon Beacons National Park. Some carparks require a new visitor welcome and orientation panel, some require a smart solution for displaying seasonal behavioural messaging and some require both.
Welcome - Reinforcing that people have arrived at the correct location.
Orientation - Maps are a popular element of our carpark orientation panels helping people build a mental image of their surroundings and plan their visit. They also have a key role in giving visitors the confidence to explore remote landscapes. Each orientation panel will feature a visitor friendly map showing the carpark within its landscape, nearby facilities, promoted trails. The creative mapping element of this project has been procured separately.
Interpretation /Stories - Each carpark is situated within the Brecon Beacons National Park and International Dark Sky reserve and some within the Fforest Fawr UNESCO Geopark and The Blaenavon World Heritage Site. Each orientation panel will communicate a sense of place and introduce the local stories which range from castles to lime quarries and mystical ladies of the lake. The challenge is to layer these stories in an accessible and meaningful way to aid visitors' connection with each location and signpost to follow the story and further information.
Behaviour /etiquette - We are working to incorporate our visitor behaviour messaging into the appropriate stage of visitor's journey. Recent research has revealed that many of our visitor's motivation and pre visit information is from social media and blogs where we currently have limited influence, so safety/behavioural messaging is an important component of our onsite messaging for this project.
