2 Contract Details

2.1 Title

Upgrade of Play area at Porthkerry Park

2.2 Description of the goods or services required

The Vale of Glamorgan Council (“the Council”) requires works to upgrade Porthkerry Park play area

2.4 Total quantity or scope of tender

The Works include the following activities.

Design of new play area.

Removal of some existing play equipment, surfacing and site furniture

Supply and installation of new play equipment, surfacing, site furniture, and any other works to complete the approved scheme

Reinstatement as necessary

All Works must be undertaken in accordance with the Council’s brief and drawing supplied and approved contractor’s plan

11/10/2022 15:30	Clarification of matters raised on site visit 4th October 2022 Clarification of items discussed on the site visit of 4th October 2022. Please find below a list of items discussed and highlighted on the meeting of 4th October 2022. 1. It was noted that the area to the south of the play area was within the root protection zone for the adjacent trees. This area currently has the rope swing and the old ship climbing frame on it. We would like this area to remain as bark mulch (not to be wetpour surfaced). We will expect the Contractor to remove the existing bark mulch and replace the bark mulch to the appropriate depths beneath the equipment. Smooth bark mulch/ nuggets to BSEN 1177. Edging to bark mulch also be replaced. 2. The Contractor is to allow costs to off load the old bark mulch within the park in an area to be highlighted by Client. 3. Jacksons fencing to be used as per specification. 4. Proposed design plans to show the spot levels and sections through site. The site to be DDA compliant. 5. The Clarification date to be 25th October 2022. 6. MOT sub base to be 300mm Type 3 as per tender. 7. A design risk assessment is required highlighting issues such as safety zones and circulation space etc. 8. If trees are to be designed into the play area please indicate the positions and they can be planted by the Vale of Glamorgan Council at a later date. 9. Page 25 – ‘high contrast colours’ was stated for the play area. We would prefer muted colours to compliment the surroundings. 10. Swings are important to this site. If not all swings can be accommodated a variety of swings will be preferred. 11. Contractor can use appropriately treated timber edging or recycled plastic. Please give the reasoning for your choice.
