Other Information

The Radiotherapy Department at VCC have a number of machines that are currently end of life and in need of urgent replacement. TCS have recently completed an IRS Tender with contract award issued to a supplier. Stage 1 of the works involves replacement of two Linacs which requires a full refurbishment of the area. Contractual arrangements have stringent liquidated damages that place financial risk on the Trust. To manage the risk the Trust has instructed the successful contractor to supply and fix machinery but in doing so has realised the need to commission consultants to draw up employer’s requirements documentation in support of ensuring this multimillion pound contract is delivered to the required standard.

HL Design have been selected to support this scheme for a number of reasons.

HL Design completed the same appointment for the last Linac replacement at Velindre and so have in depth knowledge of the estate and equipment.

They have just completed the feasibility study in support of updating costs for the Business case sent to Welsh Government

They have been appointed to carry out the same role at the Radiotherapy Satellite Centre by Kier, Although there may be other consultants that could undertake this role due to the risk from end of life and business continuity. Time to complete a formal tender process and to allow a new consultancy to familiarise themselves with the estate adds further risk.
