Abstract

The NHS Wales Health Collaborative works on behalf of NHS Wales and in support of Welsh Government. Consideration needs to be given to the resilience required of this workforce, recognising the intensive focus on suicide and self harm, the risk factors, the loss of life, often known to have taken place in distressing circumstances, and the impact of deaths by suicide on people close to those who die, and their wider contacts and communities. Throughout the work, care is taken to ensure that people engaged in conversations about suicide and self harm are encouraged to think about their own health and wellbeing, to recognise when they might be emotionally triggered, and to seek support. However, there is nothing currently in place to ensure that those working exclusively on this area of work, have a support system available to them. The workforce has engaged a clinical psychologist to help them to identify their needs, with reference to the evidence base supporting peer and clinical supervision , and they would value the following key components of a service: -a regularly scheduled supervision session for the group(s) (e.g.: bi-monthly/every 2 months) -a scheduled 1:2:1 for each individual worker twice a year (currently between 5-10 individuals) -rapid access to a 1:2:1 session as needed/ad hoc should an issue arise, or distress be experienced or triggered by any individual -group sessions that are non-work/socially focussed for broader supportive conversations amongst the team (frequency to be determined without requiring professional supervisor input, which may or may not be facilitated by the provider)
