Abstract

PURPOSE: The curriculum for funded non-maintained settings was published by the Welsh Government on 11 January 2021. Phase 1: Higher Education Institutions in Wales, the Welsh Government and a practice based advisory group have worked collaboratively to produce the following professional learning modules available on Hwb, an online platform for Welsh Government documents and resources. · Understanding Curriculum for Wales and the development of A curriculum for funded non-maintained nursery settings · Understanding the five developmental pathways and pedagogy · Leadership in a non-maintained nursery setting · Schematic development: patterns of repetitive behaviour in children To support the delivery of the modules and access to them for ECEC professionals we propose a suite of guidance videos for each module. This supports the sector accessing the material over the long term, flexibly and repeatedly, and prevents the need to attend a one-off ‘training’ event. This proposal is based on feedback from the sector about the challenges of accessing PL resources, this is especially important for the non-funded settings. Videos created within Wales ensure relevance and relatability to the sector, reflecting the intentions and ethos of the new curriculum. Phase 2: September 2022 Support the delivery of the four professional learning resources (September 2022-March 2023)

Description of the goods or services required

PURPOSE: The curriculum for funded non-maintained settings was published by the Welsh Government on 11 January 2021.

Phase 1:

Higher Education Institutions in Wales, the Welsh Government and a practice based advisory group have worked collaboratively to produce the following professional learning modules available on Hwb, an online platform for Welsh Government documents and resources.

· Understanding Curriculum for Wales and the development of A curriculum for funded non-maintained nursery settings

· Understanding the five developmental pathways and pedagogy

· Leadership in a non-maintained nursery setting

· Schematic development: patterns of repetitive behaviour in children

To support the delivery of the modules and access to them for ECEC professionals we propose a suite of guidance videos for each module.

Phase 2:

September 2022

Support the delivery of the four professional learning resources (September 2022-March 2023)

Outputs

· Video resources (in Welsh and English) can support trainers to support the delivery of the curriculum principles. Videos would reduce time pressures on staff supporting the delivery of the modules and allow them to concentrate on application of learning.

· The video training resources will enable asynchronous learning. It will be a longstanding resource which can be returned to again and again and would be invaluable to the non-funded non-maintained settings who may not be able to access training.

· Resources will be developed through module teams, with one specified named lead for each module. The lead will coordinate the activities of the module team, constituted from members from across the HEIs.

· The project proposal is for phase 2 (2022-23 financial year) and the development of these modules will be completed with the financial year.
