This specification has been produced as part of an initiative known as SMART and this grant is supported through the SMART Building for Collaboration fund.
Funding for this initiative is available until the 31st March 2023. It is expected that all equipment will be delivered, and payments defrayed prior to this date. TWI may decide not to proceed with a bid that cannot meet this timescale.
TWI is committed to making purchases in a sustainable way, and our Sustainable Procurement Policy can be found on our website via the link below. We ask suppliers to give consideration to this as part of their tender response.

X-ray computed tomography (XCT) is a non-destructive method for observing the interior volume of objects in three dimensions. TWI makes extensive use of XCT inspection as part of its X-ray inspection services. The already considerable investment in TWI’s existing X-ray inspection equipment means that it is able to provide useful X-ray inspection services to the benefit of industry and academia.
To enhance TWI’s radiographic inspection and research capabilities and to maintain its use of state-of-the-art XCT systems, TWI have a requirement for a further medium energy X-ray computed tomography inspection system. This system is to offer at least 200kV capability, with a tight focal spot size range, supplied with its own enclosure.
