Abstract

The Nedern Brook is considered to be ecologically poor as defined by the Water Framework Directive. The Nedern (a ‘main river’) flows through Caldicot Castle Country Park which is a site owned by Monmouthshire County Council and managed by the MonLife Attractions service area. Whilst a high level Green Infrastructure Management Plan has been written for the Country Park, no specific management specifications have been set for the Nedern Brook and its associated riparian habitats. Monmouthshire County Council is seeking to secure these detailed specifications through this commission to allow appropriate, well considered and relevant management to be undertaken at the site. Working vision for the Management Strategy:  Management principles and prescriptions to improve ecological quality of the Nedern Brook through Caldicot Castle Country Park which considers the hydrogeology of the flood plain and flood risk.
