Abstract

Starting from room temperature, the tailored microwave furnace system should be able to reach a target temperature in ultrafast heating rate (e.g., 800°C in less than 10 minutes), and also enable applications up to 1200°C. The temperature should be accurately monitored and controlled via a contactless infrared sensor, requiring no heating/cooling inertia, such as sintering or fusion. It should possess high throughput processing capacity under both normal air flow and inert gas protection. In addition, tailored system should have acid ashing capability (e.g., use of sulfuric acid), that would normally lead to hazardous acid vapours and is a labour-intensive procedure. It should enable the operator to complete this test in a single step without any preliminary charring step. The acid fumes should be continuously collected, condensed, and neutralized by the dedicated water-cooled scrubber module. It should be able to complete in less than two hours, eliminating any tedious and unsafe handling. These functions can be achieved in multiple interchangeable configurations, with continuing customer and maintenance support on both hardware and software.
