Description of the goods or services required
Contract Overview
• Wrexham County Borough Council (WCBC) is looking to appoint a consultant to explore the delivery of ‘School Streets’ across the county, having been awarded 100% of the monies for this contract from Welsh Government through the Safe Routes in Communities grant fund.
• A feasibility study is required to consider all schools in the Wrexham County Borough Council area and their suitability for School Streets measures (the timed closures of highways in the immediate school area to reduce motor traffic danger at the start and end of the school day).
Aim of the Project
• The main aim of the project is to provide the local authority with a forward programme of works to improve road safety and encourage active travel at the county’s schools. The Deputy Minister for Climate Change and the Welsh Government have made it clear that they are keen to support the delivery of School Streets. This project will help WCBC to identify the schools where this would be possible in the short, medium and long term as well as considering those schools where School Streets are not feasible for infrastructural or service reasons.
• WCBC wants to understand street closure options and what other measures may be required to ensure the best take up of walking, wheeling and cycling for the school journey (infrastructural and social/behavioural).
• Schools that are not suitable for a School Street should also be considered to allow us a forward programme of high level infrastructural and behavioural solutions to encourage active travel to school.
Cost of Service
Please note that there is a maximum budget of £45,000 for this service.
