Abstract

Gladstone’s Library has recently secured funding via the National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF) to undertake specialist repairs and restoration to the grade 1 listed Library building. The project will include remedial repairs and restoration to the main Library roof, entrance porch, and localised stabilisation works to sections of the East Wing and front tower porch. The Library is now seeking expressions of interest, prior to tender, from specialist contractors with listed building repairs and experience of working on Heritage buildings/sites where careful phasing of the works will be necessary to allow the Library to continue to function and carry out some of its normal activities throughout the contract period. Works will include scaffolding, heritage approved roof refurbishment including slating and leadworks, repairs to dormers and associated stonework. Stabilisation of sections of the building will include associated drainage repairs and replacement. Gladstone`s Library is preparing to commence the formal competitive process to award the contract (All construction works are to be completed by 31st March 2025). In the interest of running a fair, efficient and effective procurement process, and to help inform the Library’s approach to procurement, we are seeking to engage with potential contractors experienced in leading and delivering similar heritage construction projects in advance of commencing the formal procurement process. Expressions of interest can be noted in the portal for inclusion in the procurement process (deadline: 12 noon 4th March 2024).
