Abstract
Hywel Dda Health Board ("HDUHB") has awarded a contract for the provision of Fortinet FortiGate firewall hardware devices and associated firewall support licences across the Health Board. The primary focus of this contract is to provide firewalls that will protect all Health Board systems from external cyber-attacks. The Fortinet 600F firewalls are to be installed across all four (4) acute sites within HDUHB, Glangwili General Hospital (GGH), Prince Philip Hospital (PPH), Withybush General Hospital (WGH) and Bronglais General Hospital (BGH) replacing the current old specification Fortinet 501E firewalls. Also, these firewalls will be installed across community sites within the Health Board who desperately need protection levels increased to assist with combating threats or attacks on their computer networks, as current protection is inadequate.
The solution whilst protecting the Health Board from external cyber-attacks, can provide HDUHBs digital team with the functionality to lock down a site if a threat has been identified there and prevent the threat from spreading throughout the Health Board or the NHS Wales network. The requirement enables the digital team to take advantage of current firewall technology development to incorporate increased operational efficiency with firewalls capable of facilitating higher speed connections and the ability to process larger sets of data without delay. Additionally, the firewalls integrate new technologies such as software-defined wide-area networking (SD-WAN) which is a new approach to network connectivity which can lower operational costs and improve resource usage by enabling more granular control over the connections on the computer network to give higher traffic priority to critical clinical applications and lower priority to non-clinical applications without sacrificing security protection.
The Health Trust Europe ("HTE") ICT Solutions Three (3) framework agreement (ComIT3 - HTE-011006) is compliant with UK/EU procurement legislation and provides a compliant route to source entire information communication technology and digitisation requirements across the complete IT vendor and value-added reseller landscape ranging from hardware, software, cybersecurity and computer science solutions. This framework includes several potential providers who have achieved inclusion on the framework following a qualification process and procurement approached the a suppliers with links to the Welsh economy.
