Abstract

Hywel Dda Health Board ("HDUHB") has awarded a contract for the provision of Fortinet FortiGate firewall hardware devices and associated FortiGuard Unified Threat Protection (UTP). The primary focus of this contract is to provide an additional firewall protection for a small number of individual network devices that do not accept standard Health Board protection software. The Fortinet 40F firewalls are to be installed in front of a number of network devices within HDUHB that need securing on the computer network as they are legacy devices or have no protection software. The requirement provides a fast and secure software-defined wide-area networking (SD-WAN) solution within a compact desktop device which can be deployed as and where required by HDUHBs digital team to protect against malware, exploits and malicious websites in both encrypted and non-encrypted traffic. The new SD-WAN technology is a new approach to network connectivity which can lower operational costs and improve resource usage by enabling more granular control over the connections on the computer network to give higher traffic priority to critical clinical applications and lower priority to non-clinical applications without sacrificing security protection. The Health Trust Europe ("HTE") ICT Solutions Three (3) framework agreement (ComIT3 - HTE-011006) is compliant with UK/EU procurement legislation and provides a compliant route to source entire information communication technology and digitisation requirements across the complete IT vendor and value-added reseller landscape ranging from hardware, software, cybersecurity and computer science solutions. This framework includes several potential providers who have achieved inclusion on the framework following a qualification process and procurement approached a supplier with links to the Welsh economy.
