The contract is for membership of the Vanguard Initiative - Welsh Government officials continue to review current and potential EU networks that may offer economic opportunity for Wales post Brexit. This is a response to that request and focuses on the Welsh Government continuing to engage with the Vanguard Initiative (VI) - Brussels-based network focusing on Innovation and economic development underpinned by interregional innovation led collaboration and Smart specialisation activities.

Relates to the following project/programme financed by EU Community Funds: The Vanguard Initiative itself is an alliance of 38 of the most advanced industrial regions in Europe, focused on stimulating industrial innovation and building European value-chains based on complementarities in regional smart specialisation strategies. The contract is for our membership of that EU alliance. By connecting innovation ecosystems and sharing knowledge and facilities across its member regions, the Vanguard Initiative facilitates interregional collaboration, stimulates interregional innovation investments, strengthens open innovation, and speeds up the introduction and market-uptake of new products and innovations in Europe. Being a member of the Vanguard Initiative allows us to take advantage of supported mechanisms like Vinnovate More Information | Vanguard Initiative (s3vanguardinitiative.eu) (This novel interregional funding instrument is aimed at enabling the funding of interregional projects in the context of the VI Pilots activities.)
