Description of the goods or services required
Partneriaeth Ogwen seek to procure contractors to deliver the construction of Yr Hen Bost Project – a large scale investment to develop a heritage centre, sustainable business & retail centre with café at the heart of Bethesda, Gwynedd. The project aims to improve the sustainable tourist and community offer in the town.
The building will be developed as -
i) business/retail units for local businesses and a multi-purpose room with Maker Space/Repair Cafe equipment.
ii) a heritage centre in the form of a new extension to the building and
iii) a café/restaurant space that will open onto the street.
Partneriaeth Ogwen seek to appoint a contractor to build this important development based on the designs put forward by PegwA Architects and Design Team. Funding has been secured by Westminister Government’s Levelling Up Fund and Welsh Government Circular Economy Fund.
Based on RIBA 4 drawings and bill of quantities and pre-contract information pack, Partneriaeth Ogwen are going out to full tender in June 2024. We will be looking for a Main Contractor to lead the construction of this iconic new building at the heart of Bethesda within a tight schedule. Renovation of the existing building and the construction of the new heritage centre extension must be completed by October 2025. We are working to high environmental standards and hope to develop a sustainable building to BREEAM Excellent scoring. This includes working with Ynni Ogwen to install a 6kW PV system and install an air source heat pump. We also want this building to be a flagship building to celebrate and promote the use of local Penrhyn Slate. The use of slate on the frontage of this building will pay homage to our slate heritage and will demonstrate innovative use of waste slate materials.
The Design Team have concluded their designs to RIBA Stage 4 and the Lead Consultant for this project is PegwA – Penseiri Elinor Gray-Williams Architects.
Planning consent was approved on the 30th of November 2023 and Building Regulations consent applications have been submitted.
