The review will enable policy makers to have a clear understanding of the economic value, the capability and capacity of each element of the Local Timber Supply Chain which will allow for informed decisions to be made for future policy and financial support.

Policy makers will have a better understanding of the potential timber supply of farm woods and small woodlands and the local markets (sawmills) for that timber.

Whilst the establishment of an organisation similar to Association of Scottish Hardwood Sawmillers needs to be driven from ground level up, an evidence-based review will allow policy makers to make informed decisions on the need to support such an initiative.
