Abstract

The University of South Wales (USW) is undertaking a number of collaborative research and development projects aimed at improving bioprocesses that convert H2 and CO2 to alkanes and high value chemicals. The work undertaken requires a continuous, but variable supply of hydrogen gas. The University wishes to procure up to three laboratory scale hydrogen generators. The systems should comprise of all of the components required for continuous, uninterrupted hydrogen gas supply. The complete systems will be deployed at the University of South Wales laboratories and at a collaborative industrial site in South Wales (UK) area (both laboratory like premises) and should be capable of being moved without major disassembly / reassembly / recommissioning requirements. Some level of modularity is therefore expected. Responses are required from companies with a demonstrable track record of designing and manufacturing hydrogen generators.

2.4

Total quantity or scope of tender

General:

Proton exchange membrane electrolysers (not alkaline)

Unit Dimensions:

The systems are intended for use in research laboratory like facilities and should be capable of being manoeuvred through standard sized doors.

The system(s) should be mobile and capable of being moved with minimum disassembly / reassembly / recommissioning requirements.

Due to restricted room availability, the footprint of each unit should not exceed 0.3 m3

Operation:

Operational time: The system should be capable of operating 24 hours per day, 7 days per week with the minimum of supervision. The system should be capable of operating for 3 – 5 days with no supervision.

The system should be capable of being operated by a competent (e.g. post graduate) researcher. Any specialist tools / accessories required for routine system operation should be included in the cost.

Gas delivery capacity:

Each unit should be capable of continuous, uninterrupted delivery of up to 4 L/min of hydrogen gas at a purity level of at least 99.999% and pressure of at least 12 barg.

Water:

The units should have an auto feed mechanism that can be connected directly to the main water supply. The company should provide a dedicated deionising unit sized for the specifications of the generator.

During periods of operation without supervision, the unit should be capable of detecting water levels and adjust the water supply automatically.

Safety:

Gas safety mechanisms (hydrogen sensors/alarms/power cut off) should be integral part of the unit(s).

Delivery & Installation:

Delivery of the units to a University of South Wales facility in the South Wales (UK) area.

Delivery time is ideally a maximum of 6 – 8 weeks from the receipt of an order confirmation. Given current global circumstances it is recognized that lead times may be longer for some suppliers. Please provide a realistic indication of delivery time of a fully operational system that meets the specification.

Method for unloading of the system from the transport vehicle is to be provided by the supplier.

The system should be capable of being easily maneuvered over flat, solid ground / internal floor surfaces either independently or using widely available manual load moving equipment (e.g. a manual pallet truck).

The systems should be capable of being maneuvered through standard width and height pedestrian doors.

Operator instructions are to be provided to allow operation of the systems.

The system should operate via connection to UK standard 240 V single phase power supply.

Technical Support / Warranty:

To prevent delays and extra costs, the company should ideally have a technical/support team based in the UK.

A three-year warranty on mechanical and electrical components.

Please indicate the extent / scope of any additional technical support that can be provided as part of the price quoted.

Mechanical and electrical components and systems provided should be compliant with UK safety and quality standards.

Any additional capacity to provided extended warranty / technical support should be separately identified and presented as an additional cost option to the provision of the system.

3 Conditions for Participation

3.1

Minimum standards and qualification required

Responses are required from companies with a demonstrable track record of designing and manufacturing hydrogen generators and that can meet the specification in full.

Responses are expected to clearly indicate:

a) a detailed description of the proposed equipment and indication of how this equipment meets or exceeds the specification requirements,

b) previous track-record of the company delivering similar products. Case studies/examples to be provided;

c) expected delivery time;

d) a specification of the cost of each of the systems as well as when purchased in multiple numbers(3)

e) a full breakdown of costs including any additional items that are required to meet the specification

f) Agree and sign off on our Terms and Conditions.
