PURPOSE: The curriculum for funded non-maintained settings was published by the Welsh Government on 11 January 2021.
Phase 1:
Higher Education Institutions in Wales, the Welsh Government and a practice based advisory group have worked collaboratively to produce the following professional learning modules available on Hwb, an online platform for Welsh Government documents and resources.
· Understanding Curriculum for Wales and the development of A curriculum for funded non-maintained nursery settings
· Understanding the five developmental pathways and pedagogy
· Leadership in a non-maintained nursery setting
· Schematic development: patterns of repetitive behaviour in children
To support the delivery of the modules and access to them for ECEC professionals we propose a suite of guidance videos for each module. This supports the sector accessing the material over the long term, flexibly and repeatedly, and prevents the need to attend a one-off ‘training’ event. This proposal is based on feedback from the sector about the challenges of accessing PL resources, this is especially important for the non-funded settings. Videos created within Wales ensure relevance and relatability to the sector, reflecting the intentions and ethos of the new curriculum.
Phase 2:
September 2022
Support the delivery of the four professional learning resources (September 2022-March 2023)
