Description of the goods or services required

Sport Wales are looking into the refurbishment of the existing hockey facility at Sophia Gardens to maintain its reputation as a centre of sporting excellence and facilitate a base for Hockey Wales whilst enabling international hockey events to take place with a state-of-the-art facility. The refurbished hockey turf pitch will become a FIH certified Category 2 field (formerly described as a FIH Global category field). The facility will complement and support the activities of Sophia Gardens as a national centre of sporting excellence and continue to attract professional sports teams to use Sophia Gardens as a training venue and support tournaments and events delivered at the site.

Minimum standards and qualification required

Sport Wales is seeking to appoint a suitable Contractor to refurbish the existing hockey pitch facility at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. The refurbishment is to renew the life cycle and functionality of the hockey pitch facility and modernise the facility in accordance with The International Hockey Federation (FIH) technical guidance and current standards. A summary of the requirements for this project include: - • Removal of the existing hockey pitch playing surface and shock-pad underlays. • Supply, deliver and install new shock-pad underlay that complies with FIH category 2 requirements. • Supply, deliver and install a new hockey pitch playing surface that complies with FIH requirements (new water-based hockey turf sized 103.0m x 65.00m). • Reinstatement. • Removal and disposal of waste materials off-site in an environmentally sound manner.
