Abstract

Swansea University Medical School (SUMS) is part of the newly restructured Faculty of Medicine, Health & Life Science (FMHLS) at Swansea University and are currently looking to purchase an automated observation chamber designed for high throughput movement tracking of zebrafish larvae and other small organisms. This equipment will be used for studies related to drug discovery, behavioural genetics and neuroscience, and toxicology. Swansea University Medical School is conducting a formal open process tender to purchase this automated observational screening equipment which should be capable of taking high-speed, high-resolution images with no distortion of animals in a multiwell plate. The system must be accurately temperature controlled with programable protocols and should include the function to assess the alertness of the animals e.g. a device for producing vibrations such as a sound or taping device. The system must also have the capacity for tracking multiple animals, allowing for analysis of social interaction and be capable of tracking animals in the dark. As a shared piece of equipment, the system should ideally be able to track other small animals. The provision should include user-friendly software which, ideally, is compatible with other tracking systems currently available.
